(October 2026) – The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced October 27 that it has increased the 2026 Central Valley Project (CVP) water supply allocation for south-of-Delta agricultural contractors, including Byron-Bethany Irrigation District, from 28% to 31% of contracted supplies.
Reclamation attributed the increase to better-than-expected water supply conditions south of the Delta. The additional allocation comes from water already stored south of the Delta and will not change Delta operations. All other allocations announced May 19 remain unchanged.
The latest adjustment builds on earlier increases this year. South-of-Delta agricultural contractors began with a 15% allocation, which rose to 20% in April before subsequent increases brought it to the newly announced 31%.
As BBID highlighted in its earlier update, timely and accurate allocation information is critical for growers making planting, financing and operational decisions. The District has emphasized the importance of improved forecasting and more frequent updates to provide greater certainty throughout the irrigation season.
