DWR: Public Comment Period Opens for Groundwater Sustainability Plans

The following news release is from the California Department of Water Resources:

Groundwater sustainability plans that have recently been submitted to the Department are now posted on the DWR SGMA Portal.

These plans are open to public comment for 75 days after the posted date. Below in the table are links to the submitted plans, counties they cover, and the public comment period end date.

Information about how to comment on the plans can be found in a fact sheet in English and Spanish. Public comments are welcomed and encouraged. A SGMA Portal account is not necessary to submit comments.

BBID Supports Historic Agreement Between U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and California Department of Water Resources

FRESNO, CA – Today the United States Bureau of Reclamation and the California Department of Water Resources announced a series of agreements to resolve water conflicts that have vexed the State for decades and to reaffirm the collaborative partnership between the Federal and State governments to develop long-term solutions to California’s major water problems.

The Byron-Bethany Irrigation District (BBID) joined other water agencies in supporting the historic agreement.

DWR Director Returns to Sonoma County Water Agency

Sacramento, CA (January 10, 2018) – A familiar face is rejoining the Sonoma County Water Agency. Grant Davis will return as general manager, the agency’s Board of Directors announced Wednesday. Davis returns after his appointment nearly five months ago by Governor Brown to serve as the Director of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR).

DWR announced Karla Nemeth was appointed as the new DWR Director. Nemeth was previously the deputy secretary and senior advisor for water policy at the California Natural Resources Agency.
